The EU invests in priority projects that support sustainable development along the external borders of the EU

The European Commission has adopted a number of cross-border cooperation programmes for a total sum of 1 billion euros.

In a statement published on the website of the European Commission in Thursday, January 7.

The statement notes that new funding will contribute to a more integrated and sustainable regional development in the border regions and lead to a more harmonious territorial cooperation at the external borders of the EU.

Specifically, an example is an ecological project Clean River between Romania and Ukraine, worth 3.8 million euros to save the ecological value of the Danube River basin.

It is noted that the funds will be used to finance projects in 27 countries: Armenia, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine, Russia, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, Tunisia, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Sweden, as well as Norway and Turkey.

The financing agreement to be concluded before the end of the year 2016 or 2017 at the beginning of the year.
